Foster City Tennis & Pickleball Courts: Saturday-Morning Guide

Prepared for Kevin, Saturday Oct 10, 2026 (PT). Task FM-FC-COURTS. No source publishes Google "popular times" for these courts, so the crowd picture comes from reviews, lesson schedules, and reservation rules.

1. Bottom line: top 3 for a Saturday morning

  1. Catamaran Park tennis (2 lit courts), the best overall. It has the fewest Saturday-morning lessons (fall city classes run only on Sundays and weekdays), lagoon views, and clean restrooms. It's about 0.35 mi, a 7–8 minute walk, from the pickleball courts. The catch is that 2 courts fill fast, and it's exposed to wind off the lagoon.
  2. Leo J. Ryan Park pickleball (6 lit courts), the best for pickleball, facilities, and views. It's very busy on Saturday mornings. A local writer says all six courts are full by about 9:15 AM. Book courts 4–6 as a resident, or arrive by 8 AM for drop-in courts 1–3.
  3. Edgewater Park tennis (5 lit courts), the best fallback. It has the best tennis facilities (restrooms, water) and the most courts, but reviewers call it crowded and it has no lagoon view. It's about 0.8–1 mi, a 15–20 minute walk, from the pickleball courts, or a 3-minute drive.

Best-time tip: arrive at or before 8 AM, when tennis opens. Pickleball runs from sunrise. A reviewer notes that "winds pick up after noon," so mornings are calmer. Plan both sports as a pair: start at Catamaran, and if it's full, walk 8 minutes to the pickleball queue.

Avoid: Saturday Oct 24, 2026, 8 AM–6 PM. The Foster City Pickleball Club's Monster Bash Mixed Tournament is at the pickleball courts. The Leo J. Ryan (Shell) tennis courts are not ranked because they may be closed (see section 6).

4. Findings per court

P · Leo J. Ryan pickleball

Saturday morning: busy. All six courts are full by about 9:15 AM (julieflouty.com), and players show up within about 30 minutes of sunrise. Only courts 1–3 are drop-in in the morning. One reviewer says 2–5 PM is quieter (inferred from reviews).
Facilities: lights, a paddle queue, and paddles and balls for rent at the Rec Center. The restrooms are in the community center, far from the courts. Reviewers mention dusty, slippery courts and lights that glare at one end.
Views and setting: right on the lagoon in the main park. Expect skate-park noise.
Wind: one reviewer says it picks up after noon and calms in the evening.

1 · Catamaran tennis

Saturday morning: likely the quietest of the lit courts. Fall 2026 city classes run on Sundays and weekdays, with no Saturday sessions (Whitlinger Sarsfield schedule). A reviewer says the tennis courts are "busy sporadically," but the park's soccer field is busy on weekends (unilocal). There's no hard crowd data.
Facilities: 2 lit hard courts and a clean restroom, plus a track, basketball, and sand volleyball. Park on Catamaran St.
Views: the lagoon and the bridge.
Wind: exposed on the lagoon edge. No source rates it specifically.

2 · Leo J. Ryan/Shell tennis

Status: possibly closed. See section 6.
Facilities and setting: lit hard courts next to the pickleball courts and skate park, with noise from both. Reviewers disagree on condition: "Courts are getting old" (2011) versus "Looks just resurfaced recently."
Saturday morning: one reviewer wrote "Pick ball is very popular but not so much for tennis." City lessons run 1–9 PM, not mornings.

3 · Edgewater tennis

Saturday morning: TeachMe.To calls it "one of the busiest venues in the area", with weekday mornings best. Several reviews say "crowded." Court 5 is used for lessons.
Facilities: 5 lit courts with restrooms, water, and street parking. One reviewer says the courts are "wet in the morning."
Views: a neighborhood park with no lagoon view.
Wind: inland from the open lagoon, so it is probably more sheltered, though that's my inference.

4 · Boothbay tennis

Saturday morning: a reviewer says it's "usually mostly full," and TeachMe.To says weekend-morning lessons book up fastest.
Facilities: 4 unlit courts with windscreens (visible in the photo) and a parking lot. I found no information on restrooms.
Views: a quiet residential park.

5 · Bowditch Middle School

I found no reviews or crowd data. It's probably quiet on weekends, but public access is unconfirmed, and it has no views or public restrooms.

2 · Leo J. Ryan/Shell tennis

Rating: 1 review on Global Tennis Network. Other comments come from the combined park listing on tennispickleballcalifornia.com.

6. Leo J. Ryan tennis court count: verification note

Sources conflict. The Foster City Tennis Club lists "4 Lighted Courts." Tennisround and Tennis Local list 6. Global Tennis Network lists 4. The most recent listing (tennispickleballcalifornia.com) says 2 tennis courts next to the pickleball courts and flags "Tennis court is temporary closed for recreation building constructions." A reviewer wrote "From 6 tennis courts to just 2." The city's tennis page lists only Edgewater, Catamaran, and Boothbay. The new Community Center opened September 20–21, 2026 (city page), so the courts may have reopened, but I found no confirmation. Call 650-286-3380 before going.

Last 30 days on social (Sep 10 – Oct 10, 2026)

I searched public X posts from Sep 10 onward and web results for Reddit (r/bayarea, r/Pickleball, r/tennis), Nextdoor, Instagram, and Facebook. I found no posts in the last 30 days about crowding, closures, or construction at these courts. Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor mostly need a login and couldn't be checked directly.
